I hate Bodyboarding

Ok wait, Im not telling the truth at all when I say that, but, bodyboarding does have a debt to settle with each and every die hard supporters of the sport. The debt that I speak of is sleep!

Yes, with the Box contest underway in Australia, we will be watching it during the early hours of the morning, when we South Africans Should be sleeping, in order to support the cause. In South Africa the web cast will be going live at 01:30 in the morning and by the time the contest is over we will all be suffering from heavy jet lag.

But who cares? The whole experience is so worth it that I don't mind doing it for a week straight. You can lay the long night shifts on me thick as long as the waves are good and the boys are flying out of bowls every minute.

In 4hours and 20 minutes I will be in bed, with my laptop perched next to me and my Internet going through megabytes like Bob Marley through bongs, watching the best riders in the world battle it out for 1st place at the Box. Who's coming with me man?

The Box Pro

Just as the Ecstasy of the Pipline Pro was departing from my body, I was starting to feel weak and bored with life but then, like a blow dealt by the mighty fit of Rocky Balboa, I realised that soon would be the next stop on the IBA GSS calendar which got me very excited. Why?, you ask, well the next stop on the world tour happens to be at one of the most epic waves around, in fact, the wave that will be throwing bodyboarders metres into the air is considered one of the best waves for a bodyboarder to ride, in the world.

Yes its the Box Pro which will be taking place in Margret River, Australia, and promises to be a banger. The window period for the contest will open on the 26th of this month, which is in a couple of days, and will continue until the 4th of April. If last years contest is anything to go buy then you dont want to miss any of the intense bodyboarding that will be going down.
Last year we saw the Box local, Ryan Hardy dominate the contest by tasking home a 1st place in the event but does he have what it takes to defend his title?

How to win the Pipline Pro

We watched it! We stayed up 3 whole nights, in a row, to watch it but we managed to get through the late nights, the slow Internet, the lack of space in Deon's bedroom and the stress of watching you friends competing and falling out.
Yup, that was the version of the 2012 Pipline Contest that seems to repeat every year here in South Africa. It was totally worth it though! Pipe locals such as Kinoa McGee stated that this is the best waves hes seen at Pipe in 15years, which takes us back to the year of our Lord 1997. The 2012 Pipline contest was truly an amazing contest. Some of the highlights for me were watching the Saffa crew dominate. Josh Kleve showing that he is really an amazing rider by mopping the floor with former world champ Damien King among others. We saw Jared Houston making the Quater Finals, narrowly getting knocked out by Ben Player in the dying seconds of that heat. Amaury Laverne, what a boss! he busted 3 perfect flips on his last wave in a heat with Pierre Louis Costes the current world champ.
In the end it was Jeff Hubbard who took the 1st place position by going all out in the finals of the contest. Jeff, accompanied by his vast locals knowledge and freak like skills on a bodyboard, secured him the winners trophy for the second year in a row. Jeff absolutely tore the heats apart from the word go and held nothing back. His eyes were on the prize and no one, not even his brother Dave, could get in his way. This most definitely payed off.
The next IBA event on the Bodyboarding calendar is the Box contest taking place in Australia which means more late nights. for more Info go to IBAworltour.com

The Ocean Current Pipeline Pro

2012, The supposed year that will see the earth and all its inhabitants evaporate into the atmosphere that surrounds them. But before this tragic ending to our lives we have so much to look forward too. For example, the most historic bodyboarding showdown on the face of our doomed earth. Yes you heard right, it is once again time for the Ocean Current Pipeline Pro, sanctioned by the IBA.
The conditions for the event are looking epic as the NW winds are forecast to blow, which is offshore, and the swell is peaking at 8 to 10ft. With the contest due to start in a few hours, 8Pm CAT, we are looking at conditions that support perfect, big, Pipline which is causing me to drool as I type this sentence!
Another huge factor to look at are the riders that have made the main event. Bodyboarding history was made when 12 year old, Tanner McDaniel, beat countless riders in the trials to be noted as the youngest rider to ever make the main event at Banzai Pipeline. Oh, and did i mention he has his own unique trick called the "Dragon Flip" which has been described as a cross between an "air-revo" and a "flip", Insane!
Pierre Louis Costes, Reining world champion, is also looking tip-top for this event, while Jeff Hubbard, who we know owns Pipeline, is going to stop at nothing to claim a back-to-back win at this event having placed 1st in 2011.
