Sheldon...hes like Eor but without a tail

Have you ever seen someone so unhappy? It kills me to think of the upset that this poor boy went experienced when mother nature decided to slip a joker into her hand just before she played her cards. You see, what happend to this amigo was that he had planned the whole week to surf on Wednesday, which was today, as the swell was a mere 18ft, the swell periods were a wopping 14seconds and the majestic South Easter was galavanting out to sea. These conditions looked prime for Mother Nature to serve up a portion of the dirtiest wedges in the Mother City, but like most woman... she lied!

Sure the swell was big and all but the wave poor Sheldon ventured, to in order to get wet and barreled, was nothing more than howling wind and 4 surfers pretending that they were any good at the sport. Poor Sheldon, I think he needs a hug. He looks like Eor, down, depressed and dry.

Hold on poor Sheldon is in luck! I have a cure for his itch, a photo that was taken at the spot that he so longed to surf today. except this is a photo of a time when mother nature delivered on her promises.

Behold in all its glory.... Harbour Wedge

How to win the Pipline Pro

We watched it! We stayed up 3 whole nights, in a row, to watch it but we managed to get through the late nights, the slow Internet, the lack of space in Deon's bedroom and the stress of watching you friends competing and falling out.
Yup, that was the version of the 2012 Pipline Contest that seems to repeat every year here in South Africa. It was totally worth it though! Pipe locals such as Kinoa McGee stated that this is the best waves hes seen at Pipe in 15years, which takes us back to the year of our Lord 1997. The 2012 Pipline contest was truly an amazing contest. Some of the highlights for me were watching the Saffa crew dominate. Josh Kleve showing that he is really an amazing rider by mopping the floor with former world champ Damien King among others. We saw Jared Houston making the Quater Finals, narrowly getting knocked out by Ben Player in the dying seconds of that heat. Amaury Laverne, what a boss! he busted 3 perfect flips on his last wave in a heat with Pierre Louis Costes the current world champ.
In the end it was Jeff Hubbard who took the 1st place position by going all out in the finals of the contest. Jeff, accompanied by his vast locals knowledge and freak like skills on a bodyboard, secured him the winners trophy for the second year in a row. Jeff absolutely tore the heats apart from the word go and held nothing back. His eyes were on the prize and no one, not even his brother Dave, could get in his way. This most definitely payed off.
The next IBA event on the Bodyboarding calendar is the Box contest taking place in Australia which means more late nights. for more Info go to IBAworltour.com

The Ocean Current Pipeline Pro

2012, The supposed year that will see the earth and all its inhabitants evaporate into the atmosphere that surrounds them. But before this tragic ending to our lives we have so much to look forward too. For example, the most historic bodyboarding showdown on the face of our doomed earth. Yes you heard right, it is once again time for the Ocean Current Pipeline Pro, sanctioned by the IBA.
The conditions for the event are looking epic as the NW winds are forecast to blow, which is offshore, and the swell is peaking at 8 to 10ft. With the contest due to start in a few hours, 8Pm CAT, we are looking at conditions that support perfect, big, Pipline which is causing me to drool as I type this sentence!
Another huge factor to look at are the riders that have made the main event. Bodyboarding history was made when 12 year old, Tanner McDaniel, beat countless riders in the trials to be noted as the youngest rider to ever make the main event at Banzai Pipeline. Oh, and did i mention he has his own unique trick called the "Dragon Flip" which has been described as a cross between an "air-revo" and a "flip", Insane!
Pierre Louis Costes, Reining world champion, is also looking tip-top for this event, while Jeff Hubbard, who we know owns Pipeline, is going to stop at nothing to claim a back-to-back win at this event having placed 1st in 2011.
What more could you want? Check the event live @ www.IBAworldtour.com.

Frozen Ocean will be doing constant updates of the event so stay tuned for REAL Bodyboarding!

The Tristan Roberts interview

If you have not heard by now then you possibly live under a rock, but there is a fierce storm brewing in the sport of bodyboarding that has the ability to cause massive devastation! That storm is neatly packaged in the body of a, lean, 14 year old boy from an Afrikaans town. His name is Tristan Roberts and before he unleashes his amazing power on the bodyboarding world, i though it necessary to pick his brain with an interview. Check it out...

Me: So Tristan, its the start of the new year and the body boarding calendar is looking good. What contest are you looking forward to the most?

TR: The contest that i am looking forward to the most is the West Coast Classic as I hear the cash prizes are super good this year! Plus all the boys are going to be there so its going to be a great competition.

Me: You ended last year off with a bang and definitely cast your name in stone as being one of the strongest competitors in the known universe. What goals have you set out for yourself this year?

TR: Well Matt , i really would like to do well on the SABA circuit this year competing as a Pro rider and i would also like represent Boldand Bodyboarding association as one of the teams Pro riders, this year, at the South African Championships.

Me: We all know that you are a 1st class beach bum spending many hours perfecting your style in the water every chance you get, but what other sport do you indulge in to give you "the stoke"?

TR: When there are no waves I love to play cricket or jam soccer with they boys from Onrus River

Me: What divisions will you be riding this year because i am rather scared of going head to head with you in a heat?

TR:hahaha ! Im riding boys and pros and im training hard to achieve in both divisions.

Me: If you could win a man on man heat with any rider in the world. Who would you like to humiliate?

TR: Hmmmm?, I think I would go for Pierre Louis Costes (PLC), as he is world champ!

Me: Are you funny? Tell us a joke!

TR:No not really. I dont normally tell jokes but; when Martin Cooper invented the cell phone. he had a missed call from Chuck Norris.

Me: Where do you see yourself in 5 years when you are finally free from the system that is school?

TR: I see myself on the world tour travelling with all the big names getting good waves. and hopefully World champ thereafter.

Me: Let us give credit to some guys out there. Through your eyes, whos killing it in South Africa at the moment?

TR: There is so much talent in South Africa its a joke ! A lot of the guys could be up there on the IBA tour but, decide to waste their talent! A lot of underground riders like Marc Webster , Stephen du Preez, Terrence Pieters, the caves boys and all the onrus boys are really doing impressive things in the water.

Me:Heres the usual question. Which wave would you kiss a guy to surf uncrowded , for a week, with your best mates while the wave in question is on its best?

TR: Hahaha Well, thats a tough question. I think i do it to surf Breakwall uncowded!

Me:Any last words? Go wild!

TR: Yeah Matt, I would just like to say thank you to you for this interview, to my sponsers Reef South Africa, Science Bodyboards, Tribal surf and Sterio clothing. I would also like to say to those guys shredding out there, Dont waste your talent!
