Sneaky Prawns
The name of this post has absolutely nothing to do with anything! I honestly just felt like calling it "Sneaky Prawns" because of the fact that Simon Heale was staring straight down the lens of my Gopro when in the background I captured the "money shot" that you see on this post tonight...Oh wait then it does have something to do with this post, FML
With that bit of nonsense out of the way let me take you on a trip through the events that unfolded over the past 2 weeks, and by events I mean the Cape Classic hosted by WP Bodyboarding Association respectively
Starting with the Cape Classic. Day one of the contest saw all the contestants from around the country scramble to Noordhoek to the spot known as the Hoek. The waves were about 3 to4 feet with a perfect offshore wind blowing making it some of the best conditions i have ever seen at a contest. based on these perfect waves all the contestants were ripping and no one was not going big in an attempt to claim the 1st place in their respective divisions. The Pro division saw some of the top riders in the country falling out as the level of riding was so high, giving the underdogs a chance to shine. after 25 heats were run, event organisers called it a day and said the contest would resume the following day at a wave known as Caves- possibly the best wave in Cape Town.
The early morning drive to Caves, which is just passed Gordon's Bay, was not in vein. All riders rocked up at the beach with one thought going through their minds, "Caves is cooking". The swell had dropped and the wind was but a breath, which is the perfect recipe to surf Caves. Day 2 of the Cape Classic had started and the riders were eager to surf the remaining heats. After another day packed with amazing riding, it was time to crown the winners of the divisions.
